Neptune Technologies receives new US patent for Krill Oil composition

Neptune Technologies & Bioressources ( CVE:NTB ) ( NASDAQ:NEPT ) reported on Wednesday that the U.S. patent office has granted the company a new patent covering omega-3 fatty acid phospholipids, one of the main bioactive ingredients in all recognized Krill Oils, fortifying the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
The patent, which expires in 2025, covers novel omega-3 fatty acid phospholipid compositions suitable for human consumption, both synthetic and natural.
Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA have been shown to have substantial health benefits which help to lower high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease, among others.
The patent protects Neptune Krill Oil (NKO) and also covers among others, oils and powders extracted from krill, containing marine phospholipids, that are distributed and sold in the U.S. market.
In a statement, Neptune’s chief scientific officer, Tina Sampalis, said: "The patent confirms Neptune's position as the pioneer in the marine oil industry, especially in the krill oil business."
