What is the most efficient and cost effective way to upgrade my bargain bin PC?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ5300Y. It has a nVidia MCP61 chipset, an AMD Sempron Processor LE-1300, 2 GB memory, and a GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 video card. I just wanna be able to multitask a little better and maybe play SOME current gen games. Thanks for any advice.

I guess you've figured out that "you get what you pay"? Upgrading will probably cost you 1/2 of what you paid for the computer.

Your motherboard also has a PCIe slot for a video card ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum ent?docname=c01949103&tmp_task=prodi nfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=zh-hans&am p;cc=us&product=4107320&lang=zh- hans ) I would upgrade to a "medium duty" video card since your power supply is only 250watts ( unless you want to upgrade to a 500w+ power supply).

What was that website with the story about the cheesy bargain bin vampire costume?

I'm trying to locate a blog/webpage where this guy dressed up in a cheesy Vampire costume with rubber slick hair and wrote a series of posts about it. He had this mesh type t-shirt that said "Bite Me" or something like that. It was quite funny. I've tried searching for alot of different keywords in google and just can't seem to locate it? I'll admit it, when the market tanks, I'm not crazy about the red-washing of my portfolio. However, when stocks are falling day after day after day, I do get pretty excited that I may turn up some interesting bargains.

The majority of my investing sticks to the basics -- that is, finding great companies, buying them at reasonable prices, and holding on to them to benefit from their superior economics over time. And to be sure, when the market falls, there are better prices available on a lot of these great companies.

But as I've written before, I also maintain a portfolio of horribly battered bargain stocks -- that is, stocks that have been dragged all the way down to around half or less of their reported book value. Why would I bother with this? For one, value-investing forefather Benjamin Graham was fond of buying stocks based on low prices in relation to balance sheet metrics. If that's not enough, academic power-duo Eugene Fama and Kenneth French showed through extensive research that stocks with a high book-to-market ratio (the inverse of price-to-book) continually beat the rest of the market.
