How is the Davison relationship chart different from the typical composite chart?
I don't understand exactly how the Davison chart works.
And which type of chart would you say is more useful when asessing compatibility? Midpoint chart, simple composite chart or Davison relationship chart?
The Davison chart is a chart drawn from actual terrestrial coordinates midway between you and your partner's places of birth, and an actual date and time midway between your birth dates and times.
So if you were born January 1 and your partner on Dec. 1, of the same year, the chart is drawn for June 1 (or whatever the exact date would be). And if you were born in New York, and your partner in Florida, the chart is drawn for a spot located somewhere around Maryland (or wherever the exact midway location would be).
The difference between the Davison and the composite is small, but can be significant. I don't have a lot of experience with them, but the few that I've looked at seem more accurate than the composite, or at least equally accurate. I really don't understand astrologers who reject either one - I've found that they both have something to offer. There are also two kinds of Davison, corrected and uncorrected - which creates another slight difference but I haven't found that to be at all significant.
Also, don't forget about the midpoints of personal planets in each person's chart, such as the Sun/Moon and Venus/Mars midpoints. These are important points and they also aspect each other in synastry.
