What are at least 20 news events that happened over the summer?
Aug 27, 2009 by Kate | Posted in Current Events
My school has current events quizzes, so I need to know 20 news events that happened over the summer. Please no celebrity news. Not to much sports, but some. Political is the best. Both national and international.
1. Ted Kennedy's death,
2.Michael Jackson's, even though you said no celebrity, that was big news.
3.The fact Jackson's doctor was giving him anesthesia in his house but no surgery, sorry, but news.
4.North Korea was threatening to shoot missiles at the US on the 4th of July, but didn't.
5.Swine flu is still around and has killed a few hundred people and they think it could come back.
6. President Obama's health care plan has not passed, many are for and against it.
7. St. Louis Cardinals are 9 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the National league Central Division (sorry but could not resist that)
8. A girl kidnapped 18 years ago was found today (August 27) and apparently had 2 kids by her kidnapper.
Sorry, that's all I can come up with. Good luck
Look in Wikipedia under 2009. They have a month by month review of the year. See if there is anything you can use. One big one I forgot was
9. the Air France crash in the Atlantic off Brazil
10. The collision of a plane and helicopter over the Hudson River, killing all on board both. Close to where the plane safely went down in January.
11. Protests about President Obama's health care plan, related to #6. Senators and Congressmen and women are being booed at Town Hall meetings.
12. Weird weather all over. Droughts in Texas, too much rain in the Northeast; cool weather in the midwest in July and August, hot, dry weather in normally cool, wet Northwestern US.
13. Wild fires in California
14. Nearly total economic collapse in California's government and in other state, and local governments.
15. Car companies going bankrupt, Chrysler, GM
16. Cash for clunkers, people turn in old, gas guzzlers for new cars with a $4500 or so rebate. Old cars are destroyed completely.

What are some good political and current news events blogs to join?
Feb 15, 2009 by Super Jay | Posted in Current Events
I have seen a lot of disagreements on Y!A about current events from the election of Obama to the Israeli v. Hamas conflict. There doesn't seem to be any room for debate. Someone suggested that I try joining a blog that is geared toward current news events. Any suggestions on groups or websites to try?

Events across California as state remembers 9/11
11.09.11
At dawn, a crowd of about 40 residents witnessed the unveiling of a 9/11 memorial made of World Trade Center steel at the Beverly Hills Fire Department.
In San Francisco, firefighters stood at attention Sunday morning in front of the flag poles of 43 fire stations. And in San Bernardino, hundreds gathered as officials placed a wreath at a monument honoring two women, who were local residents and lost their lives in the attacks 10 years ago.
"Even though we're on the West Coast, there were 50 people who died in the attacks from California," Calfire spokesman Daniel Berlant said at a separate ceremony in Sacramento. "It really hits home to us."
Californians on Sunday commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 with memorials events held across the state.
The ceremony in Sacramento drew about 200 firefighters, police officers and members of the military to the state Capitol early Sunday. After a moment of silence the crowd split up and went to one of three memorial sites on the Capitol grounds for a reading of the names of those lost in the attacks.
It seems odd to call the news events of the 00's a "overcome" shopping list. As we started the 21st century, America seemed to have a separate adversity circumstance at every eccentric and vary. There was the Year 2000 bug followed by 9/11 followed by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan followed by Blow Katrina followed by the worst dip since the Accomplished Indentation. We've also had divers name deaths recently including the iconic and provocative Michael Jackson.
The tragedies of the decade were accompanied by innovative novelty. America elected its first African-American President. New forms of media such as sexually transmitted networking arose like a phoenix from the ashes of the old media.
The decade was filled with many ups and downs, God willing more downs. The full repercussions of the events won't seemly be acknowledged or analyzed for years or decades to understandable. Wherever we end up, it will have been one Gehenna of a excursion.
Allison says: It's indeed something when you differentiate that you're living through recital in the making. From Senator Obama's remote winning over Senator Hillary Clinton in the Self-governing Primaries, through the summer of campaigning against Senator John McCain and the catch red-handed materialization of Governor Sarah Palin, then the money-making evaporate in September 2008 that shaped the ending weeks and at long last, at the end of the day, the nomination in November. Joel says: It's severely to talk about something that horrific as one of the decade's "upper-class" examples of news coverage. But the attacks on New York, Washington, DC and Shanksville, PA proved that a big enough tale will not only accompany the provinces together, but carry out the conquer of what the networks' news departments had to extend. They were all over the detective story, from how the attacks went down to how the victims' loved ones were bogus, to how the Synergetic...
