Nancy Hicks: City leases secret space for police
01.01.70
There's an office lease agreement on the City Council agenda
with no address.
And no address will be provided.
It's the lease for an offsite location for the city police
narcotics officers, an address police hope to keep secret.
"We don't want all the bad people to know where undercover
officers work," Police Chief Jim Peschong said.
The city has had an undisclosed location for narcotics since the
1980s, Peschong said.
The current space also is used by the FBI, DEA agents,
university police, state patrol and the sheriff's department.
And the $69,000 annual lease is paid with federal grant
money.
Map removes potential rivals
Partisan politics appears to be part of the redistricting map
for the five Lancaster County commissioners. The map was drawn up
by Republican Commissioner Brent Smoyer, who learned the art of
district mapping as an aide in the Legislature.
It lumps many of Lincoln's Democratic voters into a single
district, thus creating four super-dominant Republican
districts.
