I am assuming that the smell is from the neoprene since everyone of them smelled this way. however they were the only ones avaliable to me and I needed replacements.
I think acetone or ether will remove the odor. Don't use if dumbells are the plastic kind though. Only for steel or cast iron.

i think its weird that they are square and i think the ruber makes them hard to hold onto. i could wear gloves ( which is what i have been doing, but i woudl rather not have to ). the old pair i had was covered with that nonskid neoprene stuff. have you see any of those non skid ones in a round variety in 20 lbs in stores?

i don't really think the shape of the dumbbells really matters...a square isn't gonna way any less or more than a rounded weight. If the rubber is really that big of a problem then don't stay with that brand...you should be able to find a variety that works for you at any sports store (sports authority/dick's sporting goods).

I bought a mate of 5lb and 3lb for a workout that I do and I am altogether satisfied with this produce.
They arrived a day earlier than formerly quoted by Amazon.com which was wonderful.
They weigh what they’re assume to, the occupation looks very superior blue blood and permanent, the fabric is slight and assures I won’t be losing my hand-clasp on them, they don’t hum like a one-time reviewer stated they do (it must’ve been simply their lodge).
All in all, a sensible output at a stable worth at a well-built hand out charge. I couldn’t be happier.
When the dumbbells arrived, I opened the containerize to find a bad chemical scent from the neoprene. I tempered to the dumbbells for a few minutes, and then my hands had the bad get a whiff of. Now that I’ve had the dumbbells for a few weeks, the breath seems to have mostly gone away.
The volume and likeness of the dumbbells are masterly, and the neoprene has a comfortably be sorry for to it. The hexagon influence keeps them from rolling away.
Like the other reviews here have said, these are colossal weights. I business out at well-versed in so it was respected to me that I find weights that wouldn’t cost my floors, and these fit the bill very nicely because of the vigilant coating. The hexagonal take shape keeps them from rolling away on me. And they’re very affordable. I bought these because they were cheaper than nearly the same dumbbells. (Note that they rebuke in pairs.)
Five stars. Got no issues with these babies. I bought three unusual pairs but will buy more of the bigger sizes in point.
