WORCESTER — The Worcester public schools have a new athletic director — former Anna Maria College athletic director Dave Shea.

Shea, 40, of Sutton began his new job Sept. 6 and it didn't take long for him to realize it will present different challenges than his old one. Shea was on the telephone last week with Shawn Conrad, who replaced him on an interim basis at Anna Maria, and Conrad mentioned that it was a crazy day at the college with four games scheduled. Shea replied that the Worcester schools had 22 games that day.

Shea spent the last 22 years at Anna Maria as a student-athlete, assistant basketball coach, head basketball coach and assistant athletic director, and for the past five years as athletic director.

Shea is proud that during his tenure as AD, Anna Maria opened a fitness center and a multi-purpose turf field with lights, renovated the Fuller Activities Center and built an athletic support building, which is scheduled
