I have a Treadmill and now it's not functioning properly. It smells like burning rubber . can you help?
My treadmill is Keys Fitness Health Trainer HT85. I first noticed that when I would turn it on, the belt would "kinda miss/skip and then, as I increased the speed, it would continue, but then the smell of burning rubber started.
With the limited description (although this might be all you know at this point), it would be really tough to tell exactly what it is.
Off the top of my head, there are a few possibilities that come to mind:
1. Your motor is burning out;
2. The belt between the motor and the roller which supports the conveyor belt needs to be replaced;
3. Your conveyor belt is misaligned and rubbing somewhere (could be fixed with an adjustment to the supporting rollers.
4. You are running too fast and going to hurt yourself !!!
I would suggest starting with number 3 and working backwards. There should be some sort of a guard that can be removed to expose the motor, drive belt for the rollers, and the rollers.
Examine the conveyor belt that you run on and make sure it isn't touching the side of the treadmill anywhere (both above on the running surface and below -- although if it is misaligned, it will probably be rubbing on both the top and bottom)
Check out the drive belt that is between the motor and the rollers that spin your conveyor -- if there is any wear or obvious signs of burn, replace the belt.
Third, your motor may be the issue. There are a multitude of reasons your motor may be giving off a burning smell, and I wouldn't even begin to try to diagnose that here. It would be best to bring it to a shop that would be able to diagnose and either fix it or get you a new one.
The last possiblitiy (#4) was really just for my benefit !!!
