In Larimore, N.D., planning the Veterans Day program isn’t just the job of the American Legion or the other local service clubs. In Larimore, honoring veterans on Nov. 11 and, in particular, Vietnam veterans, is a community-wide effort.
Nov. 11 in Larimore will feature “A Tribute to the Vietnam Vet: Welcome Home,” beginning with a program at 6 p.m. at the high school gym, followed by a dinner and family dance at the American Legion Club.
All veterans will be recognized at the Veterans Day events in Larimore. But each year, a different group of vets gets the focus of the attention and this year, its Vietnam vets, said Joan Anderson, a member of American Legion Post No. 97 Auxiliary and one of the organizers of the Veterans Day events.
“This year, we have been working very hard to get the community involved,” Anderson said. Organizers particularly want young people to understand how important it is to recognize what veterans have done for their community and country, she said.
