What is the relationship between spirituality and sex?

Can you get something of an experience similar to spirituality from doing the deed? I think sex counts as a union or physical oneness and desire is simply seeking it. Isn't pleasure an intrinsic human need and right?

Spiritual energy and sexual energy are the same energy, it's just that most people don't know how to work with it..

Do you believe that certain sexual acts can be important spiritual experiences?

I'm asking this to pagans because I've heard this kind of idea expressed by one or two pagans before, and I was just wondering what the details are. If people of other religions have any thoughts on this, feel free to answer too.

Yes, in that sex is an amazing way to raise energy.

Sex in general is considered in my beliefs a sacred act-- the Great Rite, the union of opposites to become one.

Of course, this is only relevant to healthy expressions of sexuality: conscenting adults respectful of each other and the act.

Serious promiscuity, or anything that exploits sex or someone for sex, etc., is not healthy, sacred or productive.
